Meet the Coach
Gurbax Singh Sandhu is the boxing coach of India. With over two decades of experience in coaching the Indian National Team, his legends have inspired India’s golden run at the international boxing arena, starting from the Bronze won by Vijender Singh, the country’s first ever Olympics medal in Boxing.
Sandhu's association with the sport goes back to his childhood at the Sainik School in Jamnagar where boxing was compulsory. A state champion of his time, Sandhu joined the Government Sports College in Jalandhar followed by a diploma in boxing coaching from Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala (NIS) in 1975 and Masters in Sports from Germany.
Along with the glory brought to India by Vijender, two apprentice boxers trained by Sandhu reached the Quarter Finals of 2008 Summer Olympics and two more reached the same level in the subsequent Olympics 2012. Sandhu was also successful in making more boxers qualify for the Olympics with eight Indian boxers qualifying for the London Olympics 2012.
