Gujarat Giants beat Telugu Titans 34-32 in a nail-biter on Wednesday to stay in the race for Pro Kabaddi playoffs. Rakesh Sungroya top-scored for Gujarat with eight raid points while Girish Ernak scored a high 5.
“It's good if the team keeps winning but I don’t think we played to our potential,” coach Manpreet Singh reflected after Gujarat Giants win over Telugu Titans. “Yes we won the match in the end but I think we could have played better and won by a bigger margin.”
Meanwhile, U.P. Yoddha won 41-34 over Jaipur Pink Panthers in their previous encounter on Friday. Pardeep Narwal scored 14 raid points while Gurdeep scored three tackle points. Ashu Singh contributed six points with his all-round effort.
Rakesh Sungoya has been the best raider for Gujarat Giants this season with 101 raid points across 17 matches including three super 10s. Meanwhile, Parvesh Bhainswal has been the team’s lead defender with 42 tackle points. Parvesh has been involved in nine of the 19 super tackles scored by the Gujrat Giants, the third-most by any team this season.
On the other hand, Surender Gill has been U.P. Yoddha’s top scorer this season with 165 raid points in 18 matches while Sumit has led the defensive outfit with 47 tackle points.
Gujarat Giants are seventh in the PKL standings with 49 points from 18 outings. U.P. Yoddha’s meanwhile are at fourth place with 52 points.
A win over U.P. Yoddha will help Gujarat Giants break into the top six in the points table.
Gujarat Giants have won three of their last five matches this season compared to U.P. Yoddha who have won two.
