Biography

Danni Wyatt-Hodge is an English cricketer renowned for her aggressive batting style, particularly as an opening batter. She began her cricketing journey at the age of 14, representing Staffordshire in 2005. During her seven-year stint with the club, Danni honed her skills and consistently delivered strong performances, which eventually paved the way for her inclusion in the national team. By 2010, at the age of 19, she made her ODI and T20I debuts against India during an away tour, marking the beginning of her impactful international career.

Initially starting as a lower middle-order batter, Wyatt-Hodge gradually moved up the order, where she found the most comfort and success as an opener. Known for her power-hitting, she became a vital member of England's white-ball setup. Her effective off-break bowling added to her versatility, though she faced a significant setback when her bowling action was deemed illegal, barring her from bowling between 2013 and 2016. During this period, Danni focused on her batting, particularly excelling in the T20I format, where she became an asset to the team despite her challenges with bowling.

While Wyatt-Hodge struggled to consistently shine in global events, her domestic performances were strong enough to secure her place in the national team. Her experience made her a key figure, especially in mentoring younger players. Her franchise cricket career has also been notable, with personal success in the Big Bash League for the Melbourne Renegades and in The Women’s Hundred for Southern Brave.

In 2023, after years of being a staple in England’s white-ball setup, Danni was handed her maiden Test cap in the Women’s Ashes. She made valuable contributions in both innings, proving that she has the skills to excel in red-ball cricket as well. Though her 2024 season was marked by some inconsistency, Danielle Wyatt-Hodge rediscovered her form in The Hundred. She finished as England’s leading run-scorer at the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE, despite the team suffering a group-stage exit.

After being traded by UP, Wyatt-Hodge turned out for Bengaluru in the 2025 Women’s T20 League, where she formed an effective opening partnership with Smriti Mandhana, although the franchise was unable to defend its title. Later in 2025, she featured in only a couple of matches at the ODI World Cup, rounding off what proved to be a frustrating campaign on a personal level. Released by Bengaluru, Wyatt-Hodge was then picked up by Gujarat for the 2026 season, making it her third franchise in the Women’s T20 League.
