
After securing our spot in the WPL 2025 playoffs, in-form Gujarat Giants (GG) will take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in our final league match at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, March 10.
Our Giants and Mumbai Indians joined Delhi Capitals in the WPL 2025 playoffs after UP Warriorz knocked out defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru with a 12-run win in Lucknow on Saturday.
Led by our captain Ashleigh Gardner, the Giants will head into the game brimming with confidence after we secured an impressive five-wicket win against table-toppers Delhi Capitals in our previous game at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Opting to bowl first, our experienced pacer Meghna Singh picked up three wickets while our star all-rounder Deandra Dottin bagged two scalps to help us restrict the Capitals to 177/5 in 20 overs.
In reply, Harleen Deol scored a brilliant 70 not out off 49 balls, along with contributions from our wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney (44), Dottin’s 10-ball 24 and skipper Gardner’s 22 off 13 balls to help us chase down the target with three balls to spare.
With eight points from seven matches, the Giants are currently placed second in the WPL 2025 standings.
Our Giants will now be looking to extend our three-match winning streak as we battle for the top spot on the WPL points table.
As per the WPL 2025 format, the team finishing on top of the standings after all the league matches will directly qualify for the final.
The second and third-placed teams will lock horns in the Eliminator for the other spot in the WPL 2025 final to be played at the Brabourne Stadium on Saturday, March 15.
Meanwhile, skipper Gardner (235 runs), Mooney (224 runs) and Deol (200) have been among the runs for us in the ongoing tournament.
In the bowling department, our young pacer Kashvee Gautam and all-rounder Dottin have been the standout performers with nine wickets each.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians are placed third in the WPL 2025 standings with eight points from six games.
As many as three teams are currently competing for the top spot with Delhi Capitals leading the WPL standings with 10 points from eight matches.
