Gujarat Giants have appointed Jaivir Sharma as the new head coach ahead of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 12. The two-time PKL finalists have also roped in Varinder Singh Sandhu as an assistant coach for the PKL Season 12.
With over 30 years of experience, Jaivir is considered one of the highly esteemed figures in the Indian kabaddi circuit.
Under his tutelage, the Indian team has won multiple gold medals, including at the Asian Games, Kabaddi World Cup and Kabaddi Championships.
Since 1992, Jaivir has worked with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and also played a key role in developing and nurturing players at national and international levels.
“I’m excited to be joining Gujarat Giants. I look forward to developing a fearless and humble philosophy within the team, with the aim of making us one of the strongest contenders in the PKL,” Jaivir said.
“I’m grateful to Adani Sportsline for placing their trust in me and giving me this exciting opportunity. I’m eagerly looking forward to the PKL auction and building a strong, competitive squad,” he added.
Staying true to Adani Sportsline’s core philosophy of nurturing young players and coaches, the franchise has also acquired the services of Varinder Singh Sandhu, who will work closely with the head coach.
Varinder, a young and talented coach, has a proven track record in modern performance analytics, strength training, and tactical acumen.
With an elite-level kabaddi experience and 17 years of exemplary service in the Indian Armed Forces, Varinder will bring a blend of leadership, discipline, and modern tactical insights as Gujarat Giants’ new assistant coach.
Varinder has previously served as the head coach of the Indian women’s kabaddi team. Under his guidance, the Indian women’s team clinched gold medals at the Asian Games 2023 in China and the Asian Kabaddi Championship 2025 in Iran.
A top-ranked graduate of the Kabaddi Coaching Diploma from NSNIS, SAI NSSC Bengaluru, Sandhu has also coached Punjab state teams and the Indian Air Force across various national tournaments, including the National Games 2023 and 2025, where he played a pivotal role in instilling a winning mindset in young players.
Speaking on his appointment, Varinder said, “I am really excited to join the Gujarat Giants family. It’s an incredible opportunity to be part of one of the biggest Kabaddi leagues in the world.”
“I’m also eager to experience the player auction for the first time and look forward to building a solid squad for the new season. I’m committed to contributing to the Gujarat Giants' success and helping the team achieve its collective goals," he added.
Led by Jaivir and Varinder, the Giants will look to build a formidable squad in the upcoming PKL Season 12 Player Auction to be held on May 31 and June 1 in Mumbai.
