We kicked off our Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 campaign with a spirited fight against U Mumba, falling agonisingly short in a nerve-wracking tie-breaker. After a 29-29 deadlock at full time, the contest went down to the wire before the opposition edged it 6-5 in the tie-breaker.
From the very first whistle, our Giants displayed intent and hunger. Himanshu Singh was electric on the mat, leading the raiding department with six raid points in addition to a tackle point, while Rakesh Sungroya backed him with a sharp performance, chipping in with five raid points of his own.
At the heart of it all was captain Mohammadreza Shadloui, who embodied the #Giant spirit on his Gujarat Giants and captaincy debut. The Showstopper fought with grit, contributing one raid point & three tackle points, inspiring the team with his relentless energy.
Harish Kamatchi, coming off the bench, made a telling impact, securing four valuable points and keeping the Giants in the hunt throughout the contest.
Talking about the proceedings, the Giants held a slender 16-15 lead at half-time and the battle only grew fiercer in the second half. With both sides trading blows, raid after raid, tackle after tackle, the clash remained on a knife’s edge until it ended 29-29 at full time.
The tie-breaker was no less intense. Locked at 3-3 midway, it promised to go down as one of the closest fixtures of this season already. In the final moments, however, U Mumba managed to squeeze through, clinching it 6-5.
While the result didn’t go our way, the Giants showed heart, fight and glimpses of what this new squad is capable of. With lessons learnt and heads held high, the focus now shifts to Monday, September 1, when we face Puneri Paltan. The roar will only get louder.
Garjega Gujarat, always!
