Gujarat Giants (GG) square off against Mumbai Indians (MI) in their fifth match of the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, March 14.

Led by captain Sneh Rana, the Giants will be desperate to return to winning ways as they aim to end Mumbai Indians’ four-match unbeaten streak in the ongoing WPL.

Meanwhile, the Giants head into the crucial MI game after succumbing to a 10-wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals at the DY Patil Stadium on Saturday.

With one win and three losses, the Giants are currently placed fourth in the WPL 2023 standings with two points from four games. The Rachael Haynes-coached outfit need to win against in-form MI in order to stay in contention for the playoffs.

For the Adani Sportsline-owned Giants, India’s Harleen Deol has been the standout batter in the ongoing T20 tournament. The 24-year-old has already amassed 133 runs in four matches at an average of 33.25 and a strike rate of 143.01.

In the bowling department, Kim Garth and Ashleigh Gardner have been the leading wicket-takers for the Giants. While Irish-Australian pacer Garth has bagged five wickets in three matches, Australian off-spinner Gardner has dismissed four batters so far.

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have been the most dominant team in the inaugural WPL so far.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led MI are the only unbeaten team in the tournament, having won all their four matches.

Under mentor Jhulan Goswami and head coach Charlotte Edwards, MI are currently leading the WPL standings with eight points on the board.

For MI, Saika Ishaque and Hayley Matthews will be the players to watch out for. Left-arm spinner Saika has been the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing T20 tournament, having scalped 12 wickets in four matches at an economy of 5.85.

Opening batter Matthews has accumulated the most runs for MI, having scored 168 runs in four games at an average of 56.

Gujarat Giants lost to Mumbai Indians by 143 runs in their only meeting in the WPL.
