Chasing a target of 180, Kevin O'Brien smashed 106 runs off just 61 balls against India Capitals in the opening match of the Legends League Cricket 2022 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Opening the Gujarat Giants’ innings with captain Virender Sehwag, the swashbuckling Irish batter scored a match-winning hundred to help the Giants chase down the total in 18.4 overs and with three wickets in hand.

Earlier, Ashley Nurse slammed an unbeaten 43-ball 103 to power the India Capitals to 179/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

During the run-chase, Kevin O'Brien and Virender Sehwag got the Giants off to a brilliant start as they added 40 runs in four overs before the GG skipper departed for six.

Meanwhile, Kevin O'Brien and Parthiv Patel played some eye-catching shots to stitch a 70-run stand for the second wicket before Parthiv was dismissed for a well-made 13-ball 24.

Following Parthiv’s dismissal, middle-order batter Yashpal Singh joined Kevin O'Brien at the crease. The duo forged a sensible partnership as Yashpal Singh played an anchor role while O'Brien continued to play his scintillating shots.

While Yashpal departed for 21 off 20 balls, Kevin O'Brien notched up his maiden hundred in the Legends League Cricket T20 tournament.

The former Ireland cricket team all-rounder was later dismissed for a 61-ball 106. The 38-year-old’s magnificent innings was laced with 15 fours and three sixes, scoring at a strike rate of 173.77.

Interestingly, Kevin O'Brien finished as the highest run-getter for the Gujarat Giants in Legends League Cricket 2022, accumulating 203 runs in six matches at an average of 33.83 and a strike rate of 166.39.
