Sri Lanka fast bowler Thisara Perera bowled the most impressive spell for the Gujarat Giants in the second edition of the Legends League Cricket.

During their opening match against India Capitals in Legends League Cricket 2022, Thisara Perera picked two wickets for just 16 runs in his three overs. The veteran pacer’s excellent spell helped the Giants restrict the Capitals to 179/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

While in-form India Capitals all-rounder Ashley Nurse and wicket-keeper batter Denesh Ramdin looked in great touch, Thisara Perera gave the Giants the much-needed breakthrough as he caught and bowled Ramdin for a 26-ball 31.

In the very next ball, Thisara Perera continued his splendid spell as he dismissed Capitals’ star all-rounder Rajat Bhatia for a golden duck.

Chasing a competitive target of 180, Gujarat Giants’ hard-hitting batter Kevin O’Brien slammed 106 runs off just 61 balls to guide his side to a magnificent three-wicket win at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Meanwhile, Thisara Perera finished the tournament as one of the standout bowlers for the Gujarat Giants, bagging five wickets in six matches at an average of 21.80 and an economy of 7.78.

Having made his international debut for Sri Lanka against India in an ODI in December 2009, Thisara Perera bagged 231 wickets in 252 matches at an average of 34.51 and an economy of 6.07. He also recorded four five-wicket hauls in his illustrious international career.

Thisara Perera had announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket on May 3, 2021.
